Get To Know Paul
How long have you been playing in a band?
I started playing bass when I was 15, which was nearly 40 years ago. Although, not all that
time was spent playing in bands, most of those years were.
Who is your musical influence?
That changes over time. When I was much younger, I was all about Rush. In those days, what bass player or drummer wasn’t? As I got older and covered many, many other bands, my influences definitely evolved. These days, I go for music with basslines that are, above all else, funky. Basslines that do more than provide the backbone of the song (as they all should!) but also add energy and a hook to the song. The Chili Peppers do that consistently, but there are many others out there doing that too. Then there are the godlike players that I love watching and being amazed by, like Vic Wooten and Charles Berthoud… they’re incredible!!.
Who is your favorite artist or band?
Always a tough question! The answer changes depending on when you ask… I tend to go down rabbit holes musically and explore this-or-that band or genre and really get into it.
What is your most memorial show?
I once played a gig for Festival Boreal in Sudbury. This was in the mid 2000’s, and following my band was Finger 11, who at the time were very big, having recently released Paralyzer, a major hit for them. Needless to say, the crowd was among the largest I’ve ever played for. More recently, Silent 9 opened for Matt Good, which was thrilling for me, always liked him.
Dead Or Alive, who would you like to see in concert one more time?
So many! Alice Cooper comes to mind, but also Rush, RHCP’s, Led Zeppelin, and of course the Beatles!
What musician / band you would like to collaborate with?
I am going to say Bare Naked Ladies because they seem to fun to hang out with.
